Boraha Island celebrated July 12-15, 2018 the Whale Festival which was in its fourth edition. This memorable celebration brought together thousands of tourists including a large presence of Reunionese who came to visit the big island. The main theme was the enhancement and protection of these marine mammals.
The organizers of the festival had only one goal: to mobilize for the protection of marine mammals. The participants all realized the importance of this protection, both for the mammals themselves and for the country's economy. Thanks to these whales, the tourism sector is at its best. The whale festival is indeed one of the tourist assets of Madagascar which offers a very high economic return. This means that if we do not protect the whales, a big decrease in the profits will be noticed. In this case, let's all work for the same cause in order to guarantee this economic stability generated by tourism.
Participants attended many activities. Institutional, business, tourist and local community have attended and participated in conferences, competitions, fairs and events. The inhabitants especially appreciated the entertaining and sporting entertainments, as well as the carnival and the animated evenings. Miss and mister competitions, canoe races and the beach soccer tournament completed the agenda. Despite these varied activities, the main attraction that seduced people was whale watching. This activity consisted of sailing at sea to see and admire marine mammals very closely. In addition, mothers were often accompanied by their young. A splendid and unforgettable show.
Since the event was held on the soil Saint-Marien, the 4 days were also an opportunity to present the craftsmanship Saint-Marien. The locals showcased handmade products for sale as souvenirs or decorative items. This kind of tourist event is for some Malagasy an opportunity to earn income. Products were sold so that the tourists present on the spot bought and noticed the dexterity of the "Malagasy hands". That's why, at every big tourist party like this, we always find small sellers of beautiful souvenirs throughout the organizing city.
...Safari Birding is another way to discover the natural resources of Mahajanga province. This unforgettable event was held in the commune of Matsakabanja from 5 to 8 November.
