On March 3rd, the United States Ambassador celebrated with his guests the World Day for the Protection of Wild Animals. He wanted to explain the importance of the protection of Malagasy wild animals often exported to foreign countries in an illegal way. This goal corresponded well to the special day. A major initiative called "Kanto Loatra" was founded at the end of this meeting. Its purpose is to enhance protection and reduce the illegal export of these wild animals, which are reduced from year to year.
This rescue project will be sponsored by the US Embassy and USAID, which will be in close partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Forests, airlines and eight other national offices and communities ensure the preservation and safety of the environment and animals.
The ambassador stressed the value of this protection. According to this personality, wild animals are important because they contribute to the survival of the human being, to the protection of nature, to the growth of tourism but especially to impose the identity of a country or a precise country. The inhabitants of a region, especially the young people and the children, must learn the particularity of their place of habitat thanks to the presence of these wild animals. And all this to guarantee the sustainable development of a country.
In recent years, wild animals in Madagascar have been illegally exported by a certain minority. This strategy aims to raise awareness among the population, specifically the people concerned, to stop this kind of trade and exploitation. "Kanto Loatra" will learn to respect nature including the famous wild animals. Leaflets will be distributed throughout the Big Island. Photos, publications, posters and messages will be launched on social networks. They will target schools, businesses, hotels, airlines and shipping companies, administrative offices, and so on.
